Riding Instructor and Trainer – Pamela Davies Background Pamela Davies is a life-long equestrian. She has successfully competed in Dressage, Eventing and Hunter/Jumpers in England from 1998- 2005 and more recently throughout the Midwest. Her career preparation in England was wide-ranging and in-depth. It included training at the renowned Yorkshire Riding Center (YRC) studying under the British Olympic riders and trainers Christopher Bartle and Jane Bartle-Wilson. While in England, Pamela was certified as a BHSAI (British Horse Society Assistant Instructor) and BHSII (Intermediate Stable Manager). Pamela earned the trust and respect of top riders and was given the opportunity to further her riding skills on their horses. While learning in England, her responsibilities included hands-on instructions to riders from Europe and throughout the world. She supervised the management of a large training center, managing the nutritional needs of horses competing at top levels, attending to their minor medical needs, and insuring the overall good health of horses in her care. Since returning from England, Pamela has continued to teach and train adults teens and children. She has maintained her training relationship with YRC. She continues to sponsor clinics in the St. Louis area. She has attended clinics offered by other well respected trainers, and continues to compete successfully in dressage. She is a member of the St. Louis Area Dressage Society, and serves as a board member. In November 2007, Pamela purchased and opened Royal Oaks Equestrian Center in Foristell, Missouri which specializes in training, boarding and lessons. (See “Facility” and “Boarding” for more information). Training and Philosophy Having fun and simply enjoying your horse is at the heart of Pam’s approach to teaching the art of riding. She believes that dressage, taught correctly, helps the HORSE and the RIDER become the best, most athletic, most balanced, most graceful, healthiest and happiest team they could possibly be. She also believes and teaches that dressage, done correctly, will make the most of the horse’s conformation and improves its appearance by changing its musculature and that it will do the same for its rider. Pam works to bring out the best in both the rider and their horse in a safe, positive and constructive environment. Her students work on learning and mastering the basics so that they can build a strong foundation for meeting short and long term goals. The fundamentals Pam teaches extend beyond the dressage ring into all disciplines. Pam strongly believes by achieving the building blocks of a balanced, independent seat, quiet hands, and effective aids with correct timing, the rider approaches their horse In a cooperative manner that allows the horse to reach its full potential both in and out of the dressage ring. As the rider becomes more skilled in these fundamentals they are able to develop rhythm, relaxation, connection, impulsion, straightness, and collection in their hose as they advance through the levels. |
